The site of an old Benedictine abbey founded in 971 by Adalbéron, Bishop of Reims, the small town of Mouzon, nestling on the banks of the Meuse at the heart of the Ardennes, has a number of reminders of its monastic past: a 13th-century Gothic abbey church dedicated to Our Lady, with a richly sculpted door, as well as 17th-century convent buildings that now contain a retirement home. The abbey's carefully tended gardens, with lawns and flower beds, are an ideal place for a stroll.
Lovers of built heritage should also take a look at the Burgundy gate tower, a relic of the town's old fortifications. The top of the building offers a beautiful view of the roofs of the town and the surrounding area!
