From Menton in the Alpes-Maritimes to Thonon-les-Bains in the Haute-Savoie, the Alps road is a circuit not to be missed during any stay in the mountains, for both the beauty of its landscapes and the picturesque villages and places of interest it passes through. Crossing impressive passes, some of which are at altitudes of over 2,000 metres, the Great Alps Road (Route des Grandes Alpes) offers stunning panoramic views of the alpine landscape.

The route's highest passes are located in the Savoie. Open to cars from June to October, these passes boast breathtaking views of the surrounding wild and unspoiled scenery. The passes not to be missed are the Col de l'Iseran – the highest along the Great Alps Road at an altitude of 2,770 metres and located right in the heart of the Vanoise massif; the Col du Galibier at an altitude of 2,645 metres; and the Col de la Croix-de-Fer at an altitude of 2,068 metres.

Important stages in the Tour de France bicycle race, these alpine passes are a real challenge for all cycling enthusiasts.
