Arthur Foucques d'Emonville (1810-1880) inherited this property in 1859, already largely fitted out in the style of the time. The garden, of about 1.5 ha, is used to satisfy his passion for horticulture. In 1861, he had a large private mansion built in the heart of the plot, based on the plans of Hector Lefuel, architect of Napoleon III, in order to live there.
Unlike this hotel, which has been assigned various functions since the 19th century, the garden has always remained a place for strolling, the design of which has changed little since 1880. Water features, Massive mosaiculture, greenhouse and neo-Gothic tower date from the developments desired by the Foucques family during the 19th century.
This Anglo-Chinese garden, labeled Remarkable Garden since 2013, presents a diversified range of plants: conifers, leafy trees, perennials and annuals. Among the many trees, some of which are over 150 years old, there are about ten rare species. Very popular with visitors, this garden demonstrates the know-how of municipal gardeners and contributes greatly to the reputation of the city center.
