Aslonnes is a town in the Vienna region in New Aquitaine, about fifteen kilometers south of Poitiers.
Featuring a village and several hamlets, the vast territory of 23 square kilometers has a rural landscape of plains and valleys partly wooded, borders on the nature reserve of Brenne, known for its lakes and groves.
A human presence is attested from the Neolithic period, but in the Middle Ages the town developed around a priory established in the twelfth century. The economy has been and remains primarily agricultural cereals cultivation, cattle farms and goats.
With just over 1,100 inhabitants, Aslonnes proves a nice stage and interest because of its heritage and its environment, close to the agglomeration of Poitiers and its attractions (Futuroscope).
A discovery of the locality begins with that of his heritage.
The Notre Dame dates for its oldest parts of the thirteenth century. Note the gate tower of three floors, with openings pointed arch. The nave of four bays has no window to the north, and only three small openings in the south. The building houses a polychrome stone statue of the Virgin and Child (seventeenth or eighteenth) and two bells are classified: one of them dated 1577 and bears the crest of a former lord of the manor, Jacques of Coue.
It is however the priory established in the twelfth century, when dependence of the Benedictine Abbey of Nouaillé, which is the jewel of Aslonnes. As for the buildings that were sold during the Revolution, several elements remain protected as historical monuments: the chapel, the house, a square tower and a watchtower that gives a picturesque appearance almost all the noble moated.
Still privately owned, it is now known primarily for its beautiful gardens maintained with sobriety, the mode of the seventeenth, and which include some 600 species of plants, mostly old varieties. The old moats have been preserved and with rivulets, to the charm of the site, which is labeled Remarkable Garden. Another part of these outer box comprises a square arranged Italian, Renaissance inspiration and a rose garden. The set covers two hectares. Open daily from April 1 to mid-October except Tuesday. On a different note, during a walk or a hike, you can observe two testimonies, both listed, of human occupation before age Note: the dolmen and menhir Laverré of Mare-Guignard.
Also protected, but this time for their ecological interest, other sectors of the territory can stake a tour: Island Sofa, sources Port Laverré and especially Thorus plateau south, the limestone subsoil do retains much moisture, which in summer, especially induced a singular vegetation will thrive juniper bushes, downy oak but also more rare species such as campanula small flowers, geranium sanguineum, prostrate or speedwell the spirea Spain, a bush native to the steppes of Asia as its name... do not say!
