Ayguatébia is a small village located in the Garrotxes valley (arid, ungrateful land in Catalan) at an altitude of 1300 m, backing onto the mountains, facing south, facing the Canigou. This valley away from the main tourist axes is home to several small villages (Railleu, Caudies de Conflent, Sansa, Oreilla). Historically Ayguatébia was considered the capital of the Garrotxes because the most important. The territory of the municipality extends from the hamlet of Cabrils above Olette on the left bank of the Têt to the Col de la Llose (Nordic cross-country ski resort).
It is a typical small village, with old country stone houses, grouped around the Saint-Félix church. This dates from the 17th century and is worth a visit.
Four oratories delimit Ayguatébia at the four cardinal points and are the subject of a pleasant hike around the village. A small source of warm sulphurous water gave the name to the village, it feeds a magnificent washhouse. Right next door is a fulling mill rebuilt from 2006 to 2012 by volunteers from the Garrotxes Conflent association.
The town has 2 hamlets, that of Cabrils and that of Talau, which has the Romanesque church of Saint-Etienne.
