Located along the canal from the Rhone to the Rhine, Bretagne, it is the change of scenery guaranteed. Its sturdy half-timbered houses nestle against each other in the middle of a flourishing countryside. Nestled in the Sundgau, the village underwent the influence of Alsace nearby in the architecture that is felt from the first household. Not far from there, on the canal where the boaters quietly meet, you can admire a lock. This "elevator" river between two bodies of water leaves the visitors always in admiration before the elegance of this mechanics. The green surroundings alternating wooded areas and vast meadows promise beautiful walks. The place is quiet and invites you to relax. A peaceful resort that nevertheless experienced the torments of the Second World War. Strategic position because of its border position, Bretagne has recovered from the outrages of the war.

Things to see and do

In the heart of an extraordinarily beautiful natural landscape, Bretagne takes shape as on a postcard. It is therefore the perfect place for all lovers of the countryside, eager to commune with nature. A multitude of walks are practicable from the village. You follow trails and paths along the banks of the canal or plunging into the wooded areas to suddenly disappear and leave room for pigmented verdant expanses of typical and charming houses. A splendid landscape scrolls under your steps while allowing you to breathe in the lungs the invigorating and healthy air of the countryside. If you prefer cycling, this is not a concern. You can ride your bike and go in the woods to practice your favorite sport. Streams are not lacking around. You will not forget to take fishing rods in your suitcases. Here is the carp and the trout that you fish in the fishy waters of the impetuous rivers. Moreover, one of the specialties of the corner is the fried carp. A delight to taste during your stay. The promenades along the canal also promise surprises. Particularly when you encounter the famous lock. Handling of the locks is still done by hand. And it is a spectacle every time a boat borrows this passage.

Events and festivities

Throughout the year, Bretagne is the starting point of popular walks. This gathering of occasional or confirmed walkers is the opportunity to compete on two different routes. The first is 10 kilometers, while the second is 20 kilometers. Everyone finds its account and especially enjoys a pleasant day in the beautiful Sundgau countryside. It is also the occasion to meet with family or friends to share a moment of effort largely rewarded by the laughter that punctuate the day. The young and the old will appreciate this friendly moment in nature and it will be an opportunity to share the pot of friendship with all the participants.
