- At sunset on the evening of June 4,2024, the Commonwealth War Graves Commissions invites parents, children and grandparents to join together in remembering the sacrifice of our soldiers and the importance of celebrating peace, by illuminating the 224 headstones of the Cambes-en-Plaine war cemetery. A poetic and moving moment for the whole family. Take part in this unifying memorial project by placing a candle in front of one of the headstones and taking part in the commemorative vigil. Illuminate the stele of a soldier who died 80 years ago, to show the last veterans and future generations that we still remember. Join us in passing on the flame of remembrance. - This vigil is part of a large-scale commemorative event, La Grande veillée, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. Its aim is to remember the 25,000 Commonwealth soldiers who fell in Normandy between June 6 and August 31,1944. - On the evenings of June 4 and 5,2024, all the headstones of the soldiers in the Commonwealth cemeteries in Calvados will be illuminated - "25,000 candles for remembrance".
