Town Ile de France located in the department of Yvelines, Carrières-sur-Seine takes place just a few kilometers from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, on the banks of the Seine. Located less than ten kilometers from Paris, and about fifteen kilometers from Versailles and its castle, the town is bordering the departments of Hauts-de-Seine and Val-d'Oise by Nanterre and Bezons.
Attacked by the Vikings in the ninth century, the town of Carrières-sur-Seine was officially founded in the first half of the twelfth century by the abbot of Saint-Denis, Suger. Located on the flanks of the Seine Valley, it quickly becomes a place of extraction of a white stone and limestone. Hunting place of Henry II and Henry IV, the city becomes a full-fledged municipality in 1787 and then takes its current name.
