Châteaubourg

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Ille-et-Vilaine

Municipality of Ille-et-Vilaine, in Brittany, Châteaubourg takes place at about twenty kilometers from Rennes. The one who merged with Broons-sur-Vilaine and Saint-Melaine in 2014, is located near vitreous, champeaux and cornillé.

The former Castelburg is cited in the registers from the eleventh century, attested by the existence of a seigneury and a Benedictine priory on its territory. The municipality develops over the centuries, suffering from the war of succession of Brittany in the 16th century or wars of religion in the sixteenth.

Today very active from an economic point of view, the Breton city attracts a large number of visitors because of its proximity to some of the most beautiful cities in the region and its exceptional heritage.

Things to see and do

Registered with historical monuments, St. Peter's Church was built at the end of the 19th century on Arthur Regnault's plans. It is located on the location of a former 14th century religious building today disappeared. Entirely made of sandstone mesh mounted in a mixed device, it also has very beautiful brick vaults. Inside, art lovers can admire sculpted capitals and a very nice organ of the 1990s.

By strolling in Châteaubourg, do not miss the other incredible buildings of the city like the Saint-Mélaine church of the seventeenth century, from the Saint-Martin church of 1843, of the old Moulin Ar Milin, from the manor of the 15th century chesterieres, the Manoir de Montmorel, from the Chapel Sainte-Anne or the old priori-century priory.

Also let yourself be seduced by cork oak of more than 150 years or by the sixteenth century cemetery cross of Broons-sur-Vilaine registered with historical monuments.
