The town is located in the hinterland of Nice. It overlooks the valley of Paillon, the municipalities of Tourrette-Levens and Contes. The village is located below the old medieval village, on the road to Châteauneuf. The protohistoric constructions that crown the dominant points attest to the age of occupation of the territory. Numerous Roman remains confirm the continuity of this implantation, especially on the eastern foothills of the Férion range. The castrum Villa Vetula, Villevieille, thrives there until the 6th and 7th centuries.
