Nicknamed Cité des Caturiges, Chorges blossoms at 825 meters above sea level in the valley of the River Avance. Benefiting from an exceptional location in a preserved natural area, the commune spreads out on the municipal territory in different hamlets, sometimes perched on the glacial slopes of the Ubac, sometimes clinging to the hills of the mountain of the Piolit. Torrents and rivers meander in the valley and delimit the commune like the lake of Serre-Ponçon in the East, making of Chorges, a city of water. Moreover, this is where the spring water "Roche des Ecrins" is bottled. Besides water, the city thrives thanks to agriculture. The main axis of passage of the Alps, the commune has experienced a turbulent history. In fact, the old stones also have a say in Chorges. Many monuments are still present giving an old-fashioned and authentic charm to the village. From narrow cobbled streets to quaint plots, the town has a unique character.
