Between the sub-Vosges hills and the first foothills of the Jura, in the Belfort gap, there is a village nestled on the slopes of a hill in the Largue valley. Dannemarie capital of the canton, plays a driving role and shines on the Porte d'Alsace with its dynamic trade and its multiple services to the population.
The river Largue crosses the municipal bench from south to north, before passing under the Rhône-Rhine canal at Wolfersdorf, under the vaults of the famous canal bridge built in 1834.
This river and its banks form a privileged natural environment for many species of birds. The kingfisher, a big fan of minnows, is undoubtedly the most popular. In spring, you can observe the Curlew.
Two cycle paths allow you to discover a preserved environment. One of them follows the route of the old Dannemarie-Pfetterhouse railway line, while the other leads to Mulhouse by following the Rhône-Rhine canal.
At the start of this second route, the walker will discover a nautical relay in a green setting, and going up towards Valdieu, a rather impressive lock ladder, up to the watershed.
