Between city and countryside, Épinay-sur-Orge flourishes at the confluence of the Barley and the Yvette. It must be said that the territory is conducive to urban settlement. Besides, prehistoric men like the Romans were not mistaken and occupied the site for many centuries. But it is in the 8th century that Épinay-sur-Orge sees its name traced on a document of the time. It is mentioned that the village is the possession of the very powerful abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, until the fourteenth century. Then came a period when the lords watched over the village. But this only lasted a while and the establishment of two railway stations successively in 1843 and 1889 mark the beginning of the urbanization. The construction of subdivisions terminate to give it its present physiognomy. Rewarded by two flowers to the towns and villages in bloom, the town is a very pleasant place to live.
