Commune of the Rhône of more than 5500 inhabitants, Genay takes place about thirty kilometers from Lyon, on the left bank of the Saône. It is located on the border of the department of Ain, not far from Neuville-sur-Saône, Montanay or Massieux.
Occupied since Antiquity, as evidenced by the medals, Gallo-Roman pottery and other tiles discovered on site, the territory of Genay truly developed from the end of the 12th century. Heavily affected by the Hundred Years War, the city was completely razed to the ground before rising from its ashes.
From its glorious past, Genay has preserved a charming architectural heritage which is revealed in the old centre.
