Charming small town of Morbihan in Brittany, Guillac takes place about fifty kilometers from Vannes, between Josselin and Ploërmel. It is located near Montertelot, Val d'Oust and Gourhel.
Busy as early as 1500 BC, how evidenced by various remains found there, the territory of Guillac began its development in the Gallo-Roman period. After undergoing the Norman invasions, the town also suffers from the Breton wars of succession, especially through the famous Battle of Trent, in 1351, who lives opposing the troops of Jean de Montfort and Joan, Duchess of Brittany. She then has grown significantly in the nineteenth century, with the arrival of the railway in the territory.
Today, Guillac continues to attract visitors with its authentic charm as much as by its rich architectural and cultural heritage.
Ancient abbey of the twelfth century, the Abbey of Saint-Jean-des-Prés is now listed historical monument for its domestic and classified for roofs and facades. Located near the castle of Josselin, it was sold and demolished during the French Revolution. Currently property of the Duc de Rohan, she unfortunately does not visit.
Obelisk thirteen meter high column Thirty pays tribute to fallen soldiers during the famous Battle of Trent in 1351 during the war of succession of Brittany. Entirely of granite, it now dominates the old battlefield.
Built in the first half of the sixteenth century, the church Saint Bertin has undergone several changes in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It reveals such a large canopy to sixteen panels depicting the Holy Family, St. Bertin and the apostles and the Donation of the Rosary, an oil painting of the seventeenth century installed above the altar of the Blessed Virgin.
Ideal place to enjoy the quiet of nature and the beautiful days, the Coteaux park particular reveals a wash, to water plants ponds, streams with bridges or tables picnic. A plant of the circuit is also proposed to explore the plantation site.
If you want to enjoy the surrounding nature while discovering one of the biggest attractions Guillac, visit the Nantes-Brest canal built in the mid-nineteenth century to channel Oust. Enjoy five flowered locks, mooring points or picnic areas very pleasant.
Several marked hiking trails are available in and around the town. On foot or mountain bike, enjoy the Cross circuit 13 km, Cross circuit of English 9km or the circuit of The Thirty column 9km also.
