Town of Haut-Rhin, Houssen takes place in East Grand area, five kilometers from Colmar. At the heart of a green valley, the Alsatian town is named for German, Das Haus, meaning house.

Former property of the Abbey of Pairis in the twelfth century, the town of Houssen was originally an imperial stronghold. Heavily destroyed in the pocket of liberation struggle of Colmar in 1945, it was partially rebuilt after the Second World War.

Houssen however still offer the eyes of visitors passing through the region, some ancient heritage elements. Of modern architecture, the town still reflects a certain charm close to the traditional style that is found everywhere in the rest of Alsace.
