The area was formerly included in the stronghold of Montcel, which was built in the late sixteenth century the lordship of Jouy. In the eighteenth century, it houses a residential house and a mill that form the property of the "Moulin du Rat" and then gradually expanding their owners well by purchasing the lands of the Grand and Petit Vilvert (up Vauboyen).
From 1867, the Mallet family and Cabrol Mouté, down to Oberkampf become owners of Vilvert until the acquisition by INRA in 1949 (area: 51 hectares).
The present castle was rebuilt by Pierre-Philippe de Cabrol Mouté, descending to Oberkampf 1880 and now houses the administrative services of INRA-Jouy. The construction of research buildings was spread over many years.
Its current vocation: INRA - Jouy-en-Josas. The Jouy-en-Josas Research Centre, established in 1950, is located on the Paris-Saclay Campus. INRA, a public institution of scientific research in the field of agriculture, food and the environment has 21 research centers, Jouy-en-Josas. The Research Centre Jouy-en-Josas has 1,300 agents and houses 33 research laboratories. The research focuses on the animal, food and microbes for food and health.
The work helped define the diets of different farm animals, improve and control their reproduction, to study and improve the dairy and cheese technologies.
