A large educational and research establishment located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, the Collège de France was formerly known as the Royal College. Founded by François I in the first half of the 16th century, it has always been one of the centers of excellence for the transmission of knowledge in France.
Today, the College de France is divided into seven departments, mathematical sciences, physical sciences, natural sciences, philosophical and sociological sciences, historical sciences, philological and archaeological. The property offers free courses to non-high level graduates and is accessible without registration.
The main building dates from the late eighteenth century, and is now surrounded by more modern sites.
