Pierrefitte-sur-Sauldre

If the village Pierrefitte-sur-Sauldre is not very large, it does not have less an interesting heritage that visitors discover with happiness the time for a nice walk.

The Saint-Etienne church depended formerly of the St. Vrain collegiate Jargeau. Fully remodeled in the sixteenth century, it still has a beautiful Romanesque nave. Inside, one can admire an emblazoned crucifix sixteenth century, or a seventeenth-century painting representing the Last Supper and was to be part of the old altarpiece. Nearby, one can find the small chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows built between 1600 and 1863. Its facade of red brick and white is beautiful.

Sologne being a particularly wet area, the village has been able to enjoy Pierrefitte-sur-Sauldre to develop mills. One can still admire many of the three rivers that run through the site, the Beuvron, Sauldre and Firestarter. Not less than seven mills that continue to beautify the village and its surroundings.

Formerly, the village was surrounded by walls Pierrefitte-sur-Sauldre land and ditches 1,200 meters long. Installed during the sixteenth century, we can still find in some places of the village, with around 4 to 6 meters wide and a height of up to 3 meters.

The Chateau de Bois Rabot, with its beautiful park and pond, is also located on the territory of the commune. It has now been converted into guest rooms.

Every year, the village of Pierrefitte-sur-Sauldre offers interesting and full of enthusiasm animations.

Each year between April and May, Pierrefitte-sur-Sauldre hosts, like other villages in the region, Musicalies in Sologne. On this occasion, a festival of traditional music is organized with concerts and other demonstrations.

In June, the village hosts its famous carnival of vintage motorcycles. At this event, it is possible to admire old models, to bike rides, or to enjoy the many activities offered.
