Common height located just a few kilometers from Metz, in Moselle (Great East), Scy-Chazelles takes place not far from the airport of Metz - Nancy Lorraine, and Montigny-lès-Metz.
Formerly a dependency of the former Pays Messin, the village of Scy-Chazelles was entirely destroyed by the Burgundians at the beginning of the 15th century. The town was born from the merger of Scy and Chazelles in the first half of the nineteenth century and was long known for its wine business, and the production of Roy wines in the sixteenth century. Annexed to the German Empire in the late nineteenth century and during the Second World War, it is now one of the jewels of French tourism.
Full of charm thanks to its preserved landscapes and its exceptional architectural heritage, the town of Scy-Chazelles also attracts visitors for its ideal location in the center of the Grand Est region.
Listed as a historic monument, the fortified church Saint-Quentin dates from the 12th century. Located in the old village of Chazelles, it was largely renovated in the course of the nineteenth century. Inside, you can admire beautiful murals, as well as the tomb of Robert Schuman, a French statesman considered as one of the founding fathers of the European construction. His birthplace, located nearby, was turned into a museum in his honor. The latter has very beautiful gardens to go in good weather.
Also fortified, the church Saint-Rémy dates from the end of the eleventh century. Classified as a Historical Monument, it has a narthex surmounted by a tower of the twelfth century, a nave of the tenth century, a choir of the fifteenth, or stained glass windows of the sixteenth century.
While strolling in the village, do not miss the chapel Notre-Dame-de-l'Amitié, the monastery of the Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the monastery of the Visitation, the chapel Jeanne-d'Arc, today disused, or the oratory located on the way to the Cross of Wood.
