Small town of Indre, in the heart of Champagne Berrichonne, Vatan takes place in the Berry, about thirty kilometers from Chateauroux. It is located not far from Giroux, Liniez and Paudy, about twenty kilometers from Issoudun.
Labeled village stage, the town of Vatan develops mainly in the Middle Ages, including the building of a collegiate by King Gontran to watch over the relics of St. Laurian. Created as a castral village, it enjoys a relatively quiet life over the centuries, gradually taking the face that we know today.
Very dynamic, Vatan offers a large number of leisure and events throughout the year, as well as an architectural and historical heritage of interest to discover the time of a stay in the region. Food lovers will also enjoy culinary specialties, including Valencay, the town being part of the area of production, manufacturing and refining.
The Circus Museum, the first in France, presents a fairy and educational course around the history of the circus and its artists. Unique in Europe, the collection of Dr. Alain Frère allows to admire beautiful posters of great poster masters, Antonin Magne and Gustave Soury. The 600 m² space also reveals memories of the Piste aux Etoiles.
Founded in an experimental farmhouse built by Ferdinand de Lesseps, the Ponts et Chaussées museum traces the history of architecture in the region.
The St. Laurian Church was built in the 15th century and modified in the 19th century. Listed historical monument, it has an original entrance door and a three-sided apse built under Francis I. The set is in a very beautiful Roman-Gothic style.
