Town in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Venelles is located in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône. It takes place between Marseille and Manosque, about forty kilometers from each of these cities of the south. Bordering of Aix-en-Provence, Venelles also adjoins the Durance valley.
The town was founded around 401 BC by a Celtic-Ligurian tribe. Then occupied by the Romans, it was successively besieged by the Lombards and the Saracens during the course of the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, Venelles has experienced significant economic growth and numerous extensions, including through the radiation of its larger neighbor, Aix.
Today, this city of the Rhone delta is best known for its tourist attractions as well as for its various cultural events. Its architectural heritage and its hotel infrastructure make it an ideal place to enjoy a holiday in the region.
