Municipality of Pas-de-Calais, Wimille takes place in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Caps and Marais d'Opale, in the Boulonnais. It is located just a few kilometers from Boulogne-sur-Mer, not far from Pittefaux and Pernes-lès-Boulogne.

Inhabited since prehistoric times, the town, due to its geographical location on the borders of several regions, has had a turbulent history over the centuries. Today dynamic and attractive, in particular thanks to its business park created in the 1970s, Wimille is also a mecca for tourism. Many buildings trace the history of this city in northern France, telling its economy as much as the life of its inhabitants.

Things to see and do

While strolling in Wimille, you will be able to thus discover what made the economic wealth of this commune of North, by admiring in particular the various breweries or the foundries of Boulonnais.

After a visit to the old 17th century fountain listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments, take advantage of the beautiful days in the various parks and gardens of the town, some of which are listed or classified as Monuments Historical: garden of the domain of the column of the Great Army of Boulogne, park of the castle of Lozembrune, park of the castle of Billeauville.

To discover a little more about the history of the town, head to the Château de Lozembrune, listed as a Historic Monument, or the column of the Grande Armée de Boulogne, classified. In neo-classical style, this 54 meter high building surmounted by a statue of Napoleon Bonaparte with his back to the sea is one of the jewels of the town. Erected at the beginning of the 19th century, it bears witness to the presence of Napoleon I in the town, when he assembled the Army of the Ocean Coast, which later became the Great Army, in 1804.

Don't miss either plus the 13th century church looted during the Revolution and endowed with two 19th century side aisles, or even the monument to the memory of Pilâtre de Rozier, at the origin of the first free ascent in a balloon to an altitude of 1000 meters and the Terlincthun British Cemetery created during the First World War to bury soldiers who died at the Boulogne hospital.

The Grisendal mill, a former flour mill, now houses the living milling museum.
