With a production of 110,000 tonnes per year, Limousin is apple country. Crunchy and juicy, the upland Golden Delicious (the "Golden d'altitude") grows on the sunny hillsides of the Upper Limousin plateau, an altitude of between 300 and 500 metres. When the apple reaches maturity, it is hand picked. Excellent eaten as it comes, the Golden Delicious grown at altitude is also very good in many gastronomic recipes.
In the Corrèze, production is situated north of Brive-la-Gaillarde, between Objat and Montgibaud. This sector produces 70,000 tonnes of apples each year! Every other year, an apple festival is organised in Objat.
