The Madiran vineyards, which spread over the three départements of the Hautes-Pyrénées, the Gers and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, produce a wine that has been awarded an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) quality label. Full-bodied and intense, Madiran red wine goes well with red meat, garbure (preserved goose soup), confits (preserved meat dishes) and Pyrenees cheese.
A festival celebrating Madiran wine takes place every year, on 14 and 15 August, in the pretty wine-producing village of Madiran.
