This forest-oriented walk is 2 minutes from the harbour, station and shops at La Hume. The starting point has a parking area, children’s play area, toilets and picnic tables. On this walk you can discover the great variety of plants that flourish around the Napoleonic canal (including a few cork oaks). After passing through a well-preserved pine forest, it will take you to the brand new swimming pool of La Teste, which has a diving board made to international competition standard. Then it goes along a local type of stream (craste) to return along the opposite bank of the canal, towards the starting point, where you will see an old bunker in a clearing.

Access

From central Gujan, head towards La Teste via the old main road (route nationale). Pass by La Hume station. Starting point on Avenue Delattre de Tassigny after the canal bridge: there is a car park at the entrance to the Park with toilets, children’s play area and picnic tables.

Itinerary

Walk along the east bank of the canal until you reach the expressway bridge: you will be able to spot cork oaks, admire the clear waterfalls rushing from the old locks that were destroyed in the war, and pick a few mushrooms in season. Turn right onto the cycle route along the side path, and travel along the edge of the pine forest until you reach the sports facilities, including La Teste swimming pool. Turn right and walk until you reach a ditch, which you follow to your right (you are returning eastwards). Cross the ditch at the little bridge before the holiday village and follow the track that winds among the broom bushes. To the right, cross the stream and go as far as the west bank of the canal, which you follow northwards until you are back at your starting point.
