Eau Rousse footbridges - Hikes & walks in La Léchère
8.0

Take to the skies and admire the industrial and natural heritage around the Torrent de l'Eau Rousse.

A fairly demanding but atypical itinerary which allows you to discover the local industrial and hydroelectric heritage from another angle.

Beyond its unusual and impressive character, this hike is ideal for discovering a varied heritage route (forest, footbridges, torrent, etc.) and offers grandiose panoramas of the valley. The route is accessible to trained walkers and athletic people. The overhanging section may present difficulties for people prone to vertigo.

Warning: some portions of the route are degraded with delicate passages, be careful!

Itinerary

Starting behind the factories of Notre-Dame de Briançon (cemetery car park), take a path through the Cudray forest from where the hydroelectric installations of Notre-Dame de Briançon and in particular its penstock are visible. Follow a corbelled path above the Eau Rousse canyon which runs closely alongside the torrent.

The walkways section is the most spectacular. It was built in 1897 during the installation of the penstock in the Notre-Dame de Briançon power station. Then return to the picturesque village of Cudray (short loop return) and continue to the highest point of the hike: the Belvédère du Grand Jet (990 m). From there, benefit from an exceptional, aerial view of the Aigueblanche basin, the lower Tarentaise valley and the surrounding massifs.

The return is by the same path to Sous le Cudray (750 m). Then go straight ahead to return to Notre-Dame de Briançon via a magnificent forest path supported by impressive dry stone walls.
