From Épinal, follow signs to Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, then Gérardmer via the D11 to Tranchée de Docelles. Take a small road on the left after passing beneath the electric power line. Park at the Folie Finot car park at the entrance to the Tranchée de Deyvillers.
At the entrance to the forest, take the signposted forest path on the right (blue dot). After crossing the stream, continue on the left for 600m, then take the signposted path (blue triangle) on the left, and follow Chemin du Void des Roches for 400 m. In the bend in the path, at the crossroads, take the path on the right leading to Roche de la Grenouille (1).
Slightly further on, take the Dukes path, (yellow diamond), which leads to the Bossottes Cross (2) after passing near a large Douglas pine, a remarkable tree. Turn left on to Saint-Oger path and continue to a crossroads.
Follow the Masionfaing forest road for 3km and pass near the “large Douglas pines” (3), a collection of remarkable trees standing slightly off of the trail.
Leave the large Douglas pines and take the signposted path (blue dot) and (yellow diamond) towards Roche Charlot (4) along a pretty small rocky valley. Cross the stream on the right and continue along the path to Roche Goutteuse.
Shortly after this, follow the signposted path (red cross) for 600 m and, at the crossroads, turn right on to the Tranchée de Charmois to return to Bossottes Cross. Turn left on to Prés Barthes path. A few 100 metres further on, take the signposted path (blue dot) and return to where you started out at Folie Finot car park.
