In the heart of the Ried de Sélestat reed beds, a site with a rich selection of animal (wild deer) and plant life and a regional nature reserve covering about 2,000 hectares. This walk will offer you the chance to discover Illwald forest, as well as a multitude of rivers, such as the Forstlach, the Krummlach, the Petit Rheinweg, and the Schiffwasser.

Access

Departing from the centre of Sélestat, follow the road towards Marckolsheim (Route de Marckolsheim) for about 1.5 km. At the end of the Route de Marckolsheim, you will arrive at the D424. Cross the D424 and continue towards Chapelle du Chêne. Your walk will start here.

Itinerary

Make your way towards Chapelle du Chêne. Then, turn left towards a small bridge. At the bridge, turn right and follow the Oberriedgraben river. Continue straight ahead to the next bridge which crosses the same river. Cross the bridge and make your way into the forest. You will arrive at a wider path. Continue straight ahead and take the next stone bridge on the left. Follow this path to the end of your itinerary.
