Medieval legacy in the Val de Risle

Hikes & walks in Montfort-sur-Risle

The Montfort Tourist Information Point and the Montfort Culture and Heritage association invite you to discover the Medieval Heritage circuit in the Val de Risle.

This circuit allows you to discover the history and architecture of the medieval period during the period of the Duchy of Normandy (911 - 1204) which saw the conquest of England by the illustrious William the Conqueror and his faithful lieutenants, including Hugues II de Montfort. The four sites to be discovered are steeped in this history and have the particularity of presenting different types of architecture depending on the destination of the buildings.

Between military, civil and religious heritage, you will discover the medieval castle of Montfort, the priory of Saint-Philbert, the Barony of the Bishops of Avranches and the stately home of Glos-sur-Risle.

A leaflet detailing the route will be given to you free of charge near the Tourist Information Point (Contact: +33 7 88 19 83 31). Accessible on foot, by bike and by car.
