On the trail of the hermit

Hikes & walks in Saint-Montan

Above the medieval village of Saint-Montan, you will walk along a cliff in a very wild environment to Calvary marking the location of the cave where lived in the seventh century a hermit, Saint Montan (its history is evoked in a children's book in the cave) and then to Larnas and its superb church of the twelfth century. Picnic advised on the square, among the lavender fields. Finally, you go back down the opposite slope with a beautiful view of the medieval village.

At the end of the village, just before the chapel (right), take the path that bypasses it and passes under the via ferrata. Along the cliff to Calvary. Before and after the ordeal, several scree crossings (one can quickly go downhill! Prudence with children!). Visit the cave. Retrace your steps (20 m) and continue on the right path to the Larnas. Visit the church, give yourself a picnic lunch, and then through the village to regain GR (right) and back down to Saint-Montan. Good shoes desirable high!
