Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire, located in the heart of the small champagne, has several advantages for the development of a framework for pleasant and attractive living. The city has managed to preserve its architectural heritage, built around the two key buildings such as the castle, dating from the fifteenth century, and St. Mathias church built in the eleventh century. The old center of Barbezieux is remarkable homogeneity of its built fabric dating largely from the eighteenth century.
The castle, historical monument since 1913, is a must. This site is now managed by the South Charente 4B common community that began since 2012 as part of the Rural Excellence Pole, an ambitious restoration program in order to develop a place of cultural life associative.
Towns and villages along white stone as Baignes, Guizengeard, Passirac, Brossac Berneuil, Challignac, Lagarde on Born, Barret, and Montchaude Reignac also contain a great Romanesque heritage.
Gastronomic traditions (Pineau, cognac, candied, snails, chicken Barbezieux), Craft (tile, pottery) contribute to radiation or agricultural land.
