A designated nature reserve, the Méouge gorges near Châteauneuf-de-Chabre are a haven of coolness in the summer for nature-loving walkers and swimming fans. In spring or after heavy rainfall, the water of the Méouge also attracts kayakists.
As well as this protected area's many natural treasures, you can admire a three-arched medieval bridge and the ruins of a mill on a walk along the river.

Located 5 km south of Laragne, the Gorges de la Méouge are classified as a biological reserve and represent a real gem for the department. Designated as a Wonder of the Hautes Alpes, the gorges of the Méouge are bathed in heat and light and are a famous place for swimming and walks.
Deep, winding gorges surrounding a fiery torrent that leaps in cascades, forms whirlpools, water holes, polished pebble beaches, natural reservoirs…
Even lovers of old stones will be happy, admiring an old Romanesque bridge with three arches, still in very good condition, as well as the remains of a mill which was washed away by a flood in 1901.
Budding geologists will admire the enormous blocks of rock forming beautiful ivory-coloured strata. The curious will profit from reading the explanatory panels of the fauna and flora: you are here in a Natura 2000 site full of Alpine, Provençal, Mediterranean, Iberian and even North African plants.
So refreshing in summer, the Méouge can also be descended by kayak in the spring or flown over in a hang-glider or paraglider: departure from the site of Chabre, from where there is also a superb panoramic view !
