An important historical crossroads, Serres has preserved its original fortified village appearance. Built amphitheatre-style at the foot of Pignolette rock, this site of character is a particularly lovely place to walk around, with plenty to explore for visitors, including steep, narrow streets, a Romanesque church, a clock tower, the old carved door of the town hall and the Renaissance facade of the former home of Supreme Commander Lesdiguières.

Additional information
Serres

In the heart of the Pays du Buëch, the village of Serres is a bit like Sleeping Beauty, many tourists pass by the foot of the Pignolette, without glimpsing the secret charm of the old village... The storey facades give the impression of lean over each other to watch the Buëch cascade at their feet before heading towards Sisteron (34 km). When you enter the city, it is enchanting: the arcaded square, the windows and sculpted facades including that of the house of the constable of Lesdiguières, the district of the coast, the old doors... The Romanesque church of Saint- Arey from the 12th century, a Hebrew tomb from the same period and the Jewry district, the chapel of Saumane, all the memories left by the wars of religion, the current Renaissance style town hall, also the birthplace of the scholar geographer, Alexandre Corréard (1788-1857) survivor of the Radeau de la Méduse, famous painting later painted by Théodore Géricault… and history with the association of Friends of the Village of Serres; exhibitions, workshops and events around contemporary art with the artistic association "Serres Lez'Arts".

The Hang'Art association, a collective of art craftsmen from the Hautes Alpes, represents crafts in its exhibition-sale gallery open all year round. Its cultural café offers monthly show evenings, themed aperitifs, courses to discover the work of craftsmen.
