Explore the Piton de la Fournaise on this off-the-trail hike! Only professional tour guides are allowed to take a group off the trail into the Fouqué enclosure. You will descend the rampart by the step of Bellecombe – Jacob to reach the caldera of the Fouqué enclosure, where the lava flows testify to the last eruptions of the volcano. You will then pass by the Formica Léo, crater created following an eruption, with the original shape. You can also see the lava flows of 2019 and 2020 before reaching the cracks of those of 2019.Located at the top of the Piton de la Fournaise, you will advance towards the Bory crater to reach the Dolomieu crater, which collapsed during the eruption of April 2007, because of the weight of the lava flows. You will continue your hike in this unique landscape, on the southwest slopes of the volcano to reach the crater of Soufrière and be closer to volcanic life. It will finally be time to have your lunch (picnic not included) in this exceptional place before starting your descent. Depending on the weather you have left and the weather, you will have the choice between two downhill trails: the Dolomieu trail or a passage through the Piton Kapor to be able to observe its lava tube. After this exceptional hike in the heart of one of the most active volcanoes in the world, you will return to your starting point. Save a little strength for the finish, the final ascent of the stairs on the 120 m of the rampart!
