The mansion of Rochegude was built in 1685 in a Louis XIII style, south of the city center of Albi and his episcopal city.
In 1787, he was acquired by the Marquis de Rochegude, a browser and scholar who shall cause rearrangements through the addition of cutting-body as including terraces.
Therefore, the revisions have been made still later, the building now presents a U shape around a courtyard overlooking the street.
The facades are decorated via the alternation of brick and stone and a pediment decorated with a coat of arms overcomes the main building.
From the mansion of origin, remains in fact a marble staircase and inside, many woodwork from the archdiocese were resettled in the early twentieth century.
It was at this time that the beautiful building received in 1908 the municipal library in the city that featured a 300 000 volumes funds. Besides medieval manuscripts and old books, many of the treasures of the library came from confiscations of the Revolution (at the expense of the cathedral chapter or convents) or bequests, including those of the Marquis de Rochegude.
In 2008, restoration work was done, the library partly transferred and a bathroom open to the public cultural exhibition was arranged.
The Rochegude hotel itself protected as historical monuments, surrounded by a 4-hectare park open to the public labeled Remarkable Garden: it includes a French garden, an English garden, a garden of scents, and thematic or recreational plots (garden shadows, rose garden...). The Romantic era statues line the park and panels present the species.
