Breitenbach

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Bas-Rhin

Village of Bas-Rhin, in Alsace, Breitenbach takes place about fifty kilometers from Strasbourg and its famous cathedral. In the heart of nature, it is located not far from Bellefosse, Steige and Le Hohwald.

The origin of Breitenbach is very likely linked to the abbey of Honcourt, located not far away. Property of the Habsburgs from the 13th century, the town has long been coveted for its wooded areas.

Very touristic, the Alsatian city attracts many visitors with its mainly religious architectural heritage, but also with its landscapes to discover thanks to various marked hiking trails.

Things to see and do

Built in the 18th century, the Church of St. Gall replaced a primitive building. It has retained some Romanesque elements of an older construction. Not far away, it is also possible to admire a statue of Saint Urban or the chapel of the Sorrowful Virgin.

Surmounted by a small belfry from the second half of the 19th century, the latter has two paintings by the painter Charles Frantz, a native of the town, inside. A grotto of Lourdes erected in the 1910s is also visible not far from there.

The boundaries of neighboring towns are marked out by markers from the 17th to the 19th century. These boundary stones are still visible in different places in the locality.

Events and festivities

In December, the town offers a market for producers and artisans.
