The Château de la Farinière is located in the town of Cinq-Mars-la-Pile, in Indre-et-Loire, 10 km west of Tours, on the right bank of the Loire.
It was built from 1600 on a wooded area of 7 hectares.
A first phase of work concerned the main building, which was completed around 1640, then a second made it possible to enlarge the building via pavilions to the east and west.
In 1730, exterior dressed stone staircases were fitted out leading from the terrace to the main courtyard. It is also observed that galleries connect the wings.
The seat of a small seigneury, the estate, although restored during the first half of the 20th century, suffered from looting.
The current castle, protected as a historical monument, is now an elegant manor house in a bucolic setting, on a hillside, where the white mulberry tree was cultivated for a time, necessary for the breeding of silkworms.
At the turn of the 2000s, the exteriors were taken over and new owners created a garden (including a rose garden, a Mediterranean area, in particular) dotted with ceramic works of art.
The establishment has been closed to the public for two years, but the beautiful silhouette of the castle nevertheless dominates this sector of the city of character renowned for its Gallo-Roman remains.
