Coquainvilliers is a small town in Calvados in Normandy with about 800 inhabitants, its area is 1190 hectares.
Its inhabitants are called the Coquainvillois and Coquainvilloises.
The heart of the town is animated by: the school which welcomes kindergarten and primary school children, the multipurpose room, headquarters of the various associations and the library, the Saint-Martin church, the town hall and the municipal council chamber.
The village is crossed by the D48 which links it to Lisieux in the south and Pont-l'Evêque in the north. On both sides of this departmental subdivision have developed: The village meadow, The heights of Touques, Residence of the valley.
The village is located in a valley crossed by a river called the Touques, famous for the sea trout lifts from May to September. Other rivers meander through the countryside: the Pré d'Auge river and the Bailleul mill stream (hiking trail). Outside the valley, the town is quite hilly. The GR 26, as well as hiking and mountain biking trails, pass through Coquainvilliers.
Many surrounding buildings are half-timbered Norman style, an important characteristic of the Pays d'Auge. The old presbytery is a beautiful representation of this.
It is a flowery village awarded with 3 flowers since 2004. It has a botanical trail.
Since 1956, the Boulard house (Calvados Experience) has distilled one of the most renowned Calvados AOC at Coquainvilliers.
The municipality of Coquainvilliers offers many points of interest demonstrating the beauty of a Norman village. Coquainvilliers was the domain of the Marquise de Prie, whose manor, in ruins, remains in the grasslands of the valley, a short distance from the village.
The manor of the Pontif: The main building of the manor dates from the beginning of the 17th century and was completed, at the end of the century, by two entrance pavilions alongside two staircase turrets forming a porch of Entrance. In 1985, the landscaper François Goffinet took over the garden. A set of geometric green rooms can be ordered from one another, accompanying the manor house and its gatehouse. The Pontif's manor has been listed as a historical monument since July 4, 2005.
The Saint-Martin church of Coquainvilliers was probably built in the 12th and 13th centuries, replacing a church older Romanesque. It would have been altered in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. The church of Coquainvilliers belongs to this type of churches whose bell tower is added on one of its sides. Inside the church: The main beams of the frame are carved polychrome beams. The altarpiece is in the form of a triptych (table with three compartments). The two side shutters have niches housing statues, that of St Sebastian, patron of the brotherhoods of charity, and that of St Martin, patron of the parish. In the church, we can also see some attributes of the Brothers of Charity: torches and the banner of the municipality. A brotherhood of charity is an association of Catholic parishioners who voluntarily prepare and organize burials, accompany and support families in mourning, participate in the religious ceremony.
Hiking trails: Circuit du Pontif, 13 km and 20 km - Circuit of the stream of the mill of Bailleul, 8.5 km.
