Charming little town of Isère, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Hières-sur-Amby takes place in the heart of the former Dauphiné, about a hundred kilometers from Grenoble. It is located at the gates of Ain, not far from Leyrieu, La Balme-les-Grottes and Courtenay.
Occupied since the Neolithic period, the town has known over the centuries a rich and varied history, in particular thanks to its strategic position between the alluvial plain of the Rhône and the Larina plateau. Long focused on agriculture and river trade, the city of Hières-sur-Amby also had, until the end of the 19th century, a large number of mills which kept its economy running.
Today, Hières-sur-Amby continues to attract passing visitors thanks to the richness of its ancient heritage which is revealed through an archaeological site of great importance.
