Huttenheim

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Bas-Rhin

Just 35 kilometers from Strasbourg, Huttenheim stretches along the banks of the Ill near the Route des Païens, in the heart of Alsace. Dating back to the 7th century, the town once marked by agriculture and fishing is now mainly focused on industry. This economic boom took as a starting point the establishment in 1828 of its large textile factory.

Tarts flambées and sauerkraut are among the regional specialties that you will find at the tables of Huttenheim restaurants. Alsace wines whose reputation is well established will also delight your taste buds.

Beautiful half-timbered houses and authenticity await you on the banks of the Ill, in a landscape straight out of a postcard.

Things to see and do

The historical heritage of Huttenheim, including its castle, was unfortunately largely destroyed during the successive wars that hit the region. However, the remarkable Chapel of Our Lady of Grasweg survived the massacre and houses an outstanding sculpture of the Madonna and Child dating back to 1420. You can also admire a medieval fresco quite splendid. The chapel opens its doors to visitors from May to October.

From mid-June to late August, the water level of Huttenheim welcomes children and adults for moments of pleasure and relaxation in a natural setting of 2.5 hectares. Swimming and sunbathing are planned in a landscape quite beautiful and relaxing.

Throughout the year, you have access to many hiking trails that will make you visit the green surroundings of Huttenheim and discover lush vegetation. Please note in your diaries, the trail of discovery offers no less than 12 kilometers of hiking trails near the forest to discover the treasures of Ried. A single ride of its kind that will leave you a pleasant memory.

The visit of the Ms. Wintz artist workshop will allow you to soak up the local culture. Textile designer, she will discover his studio and you fall under the spell of his creations "handmade" and original.
