Incorporated stronghold since the year 985, Labruguière was protected by a fortified wall once pierced by three doors, including that of Barry, in which just enters the roundabout. Escoussens village, 7 km. Capping a rocky hill, the village has retained its picturesque Escoussens medieval character. Alleyways will lead you straight to the 12th century castle built by Roger Trencavel, Viscount of Carcassonne, on the site of an ancient Roman hill fort. Destroyed in 1360, this fortress was rebuilt by the Carthusians of Saïx who made the seat of their administration.
