The castle Molières is located on the town of the same name, in the Dordogne, 30 km east of Bergerac.
It was erected in the early fourteenth century by the seneschal of Périgord Guilhem of Toulouse who wanted to fortify the bastide (new town) of Molières, created a few years earlier, in 1284, by the King of England Edward I.
The project could not be completed. The seneschal himself financed the project before soliciting the kingdom of England, which stopped its aid in 1318. The works then ceased in 1320, the castle including in all and for all only a tower shaped dungeon Basically built at the same time as the bastide (it served as a prison) and a walled enclosure with a walkway, forming a square of 50 m side.
The ruins of the castle, that is to say a part of the dungeon and the enclosure, are protected as historical monuments since 1948.
They embellish a visit of the country house with picturesque charm. Information on +33 5 53 57 03 11.
