Municipality of Morbihan, in Brittany, Péaule takes place about forty kilometers from the very touristic town of Vannes, on the banks of the Vilaine. It is located in the canton of Questembert, not far from La Roche-Bernard, Béganne or Le Guerno.
Populated by the Celts, then by the Romans, the territory of Péaule developed from the 9th century around its church. Today, the small Breton city continues to attract visitors with its incredible cultural and architectural wealth to be discovered through, in particular, a religious heritage of great interest.
Originally from the 16th century, the Saint-Gaudens church was completely rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century by the architect Joseph Caubert. It unveils a belfry from the end of the 1910s, as well as a beautiful high altar tabernacle located in the baptismal font which is dominated by a wooden representation of Saint Gaudens.
Péaule has a rich religious heritage to discover during a stay in the surroundings with in particular the Saint-Cornély chapel and the Saint-André chapel from the 19th century, the Saint-Michel chapel or the former Saint-Chapel -Jean Baptiste. Rectangular building with radiating mullioned windows today in ruins, the latter was built in the 15th century on the remains of a former Templar site. During your walks, you will also be able to appreciate the cross of Bellon of the XVIth century, the so-called cross of the Temple which would date from the time of the Templars or the Calvary.
The civil heritage of the Breton municipality is not lacking in interest either, with the 18th century castle of Fescal, the 15th century manor of the Salle, the Coëtguel manor, the Bellon manor or the old Doyenné. Built in the 15th century, the latter served as a presbytery until the early 1910s. It features a residential house with doors and windows decorated in the Italian Renaissance style as well as a beautiful spiral staircase.
While strolling, you will enjoy discovering the Saint-André fountain, the Fescalgoff house, the water mills, the Bellon bread oven or the Poulho forge.
