The Dinard golf course is located on Saint-Briac-sur-Mer, a few kilometers west of the famous seaside resort of Ille-et-Vilaine.
Built in 1887, it is one of the oldest golf courses on the continent and the second to have been created in France, after that of Pau in 1856.
The golf course was designed by Scottish architect Tom Dunn at the request of British tourists and families of former Indian army officers or Egypt loving to stay on the Emerald Coast. After initiating the creation of the first French tennis club, while the fashion of sea bathing and yachting is developing, these British bought some 50 hectares of moorland and dunes, facing the sea, dotted with broom and gorse, hitherto devolved to grazing cows and sheep.
The success of Dinard golf was immediate. In 1927, a clubhouse was built. Frequented by celebrities as by anonymous French conquered by this sport, the site hosts many international competitions.
On a technical level, the 18-hole course is considered difficult because of the sandy soil, the wavy fairways and, at the seaside, a very frequent wind.
Dinard golf is now included in a protected area because of the singularity of its ecosystem typical of the coast. There are different varieties of orchids or migratory birds that like to take a break.
The Dinard golf course is open to holiday lovers in the region, but from April to September, Saturday afternoons and Sundays are reserved for members and their guests.
