The site overlooking the village was already used militarily by the Romans.
The fortress in ruins today was built by the Coligny family at the beginning of the 12th century.
This former fortified castle was the center of the seigneury of Cuchet. It was to look like the Château des Allymes with two square towers and a dungeon.
It was ceded in 1355 to the Counts of Savoy.
The Duke of Savoy alienated it towards the end of the 15th century as a fief to the La Forest family.
The castle was razed at the end of the 16th century by Biron.
The seigneury of Cuchet was still in the Compagnon family in 1789.
