Thorigny-sur-Oreuse

Listed as a historic monument, the church of St. Peter and St. Paul dates from the second half of the seventeenth century. It presents a typical architecture of this part of the Yonne.

The garden of the ancient castle of Thorigny is also listed as an historic monument and open to the public.

Private property, the castle of Fleurigny is classified as an historic monument, as is its chapel. The buildings take place on an island and are completely surrounded by water. One can notably admire an old seigniorial farm transformed into an equestrian center, a large park bordered by a vegetable garden, the sepulchral chapel of the 19th century, as well as the former drawbridge of the commandery of Launay. Inside the main building, the guard room reveals a monumental fireplace, while upstairs you can admire a cabinet of paintings of the seventeenth century. Be sure to admire the English-style brick pavilion, or the Renaissance chapel, which houses a Merovingian sarcophagus and tomb plaques from the family prior to the French Revolution.

While strolling in Thorigny-sur-Oreuse and its surroundings, you will also be able to discover the Saint-Memmie church, the sanctuary of Notre-Dame-des-Roches, the chapel Notre-Dame-of-Lorette, the vestiges of the former commandery of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem Launay, the Church of St. Martin, or the Chapel of St. Hubert. Several old wash houses also take place in the town.

A Christmas market is organized at the end of the year.

In February, the town offers a lively carnival.
