A Romanesque church classified as an historic monument, the Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church is located in the commune of Varenne-l'Arconce, in the department of Saône-et-Loire. Listed in the network of the European Federation of Cluniac sites, it dates from the early twelfth century.
Restored in the nineteenth century, then in the second half of the twentieth century, it has an elegant Romanesque bell tower decorated on each side with two simple arched bays on the penultimate floor and two pairs of twin bays on the top floor.
Inside, one can admire a polychrome wooden statuary composed of a Christ on the cross and five other statues. Classified as an historic monument, Christ dates from the 13th century and is the largest exhibition in a church in Burgundy with its 1.74 meters long. The statues of Saint Roch and Saint Cosme are also classified as Historical Monuments, while that of Saint Anthony is included in the supplementary inventory.
