Founded in 1985, the Francofolies festival in La Rochelle is a big event for contemporary French song and music. Every year in July, the line-up ranges from the biggest names in popular song, to more alternative song, through the Young Audience shows and new talent showcases. The Francofolies festival has never stopped innovating, creating, moving, exporting itself and maintaining its spirit of openness, friendliness and inventiveness.
The Francofolies also aim to play an active role in the development and distribution of young artists who express themselves in the language of Molière. Thus, over time, other actions have sprung up alongside the festival: Le Chantier des Francos - a real laboratory supervised by acting, vocal and personal coaches, who provide constant support and follow-up as the young artists develop; and Les Enfants de la Zique: a scheme to promote singing in the classroom with teachers’ help.
