The Beaujolais vineyards extend over an area of 22,500 hectares and boast 12 different appellations (quality wine-producing areas): 2 producing the AOC wines Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages, and 10 producing the crus superior wines of Brouilly, Chénas, Chiroubles, Côte-de-Brouilly, Fleurie, Juliénas, Morgon, Moulin à Vent, Régnié and Saint-Amour. The world-famous wine Beaujolais Nouveau is celebrated on the third Thursday of every November. Festive atmosphere guaranteed!

The Maison des Beaujolais in Saint-Jean-d'Ardières tells visitors all about Beaujolais wines. The historic capital of Beaujolais, Beaujeu, is also worth a visit.

The Beaujolais vineyards

The vineyard stretches for 55 km to the north from Lyon to the south of Burgundy. It is planted with 98% Gamay Noir with white juice and 2% Chardonnay for the whites. Some grape varieties outside historical tradition are planted (Syrah, Viognier, Gamaret...) but do not fit into the regional AOCs. Marcel Lapierre is the pioneer in the region of natural winemaking and the return to healthy agriculture limiting chemicals.
